Big Pine Key & the Lower Keys

ABA Therapy in Big Pine Key & the Lower Keys

Between Key West and the Seven Mile Bridge, homes are spread out and quiet, and that can make it feel like services skip right over you. They do not have to. Our base is in Key West, close enough that the Lower Keys are part of our regular week, and our therapists come to your door in English or in Spanish.

Lower Keys communities we cover

We schedule in-home visits across the keys between Big Coppitt and Big Pine, on both sides of US-1 and down the side streets off the highway.

  • Big Pine Key and No Name Key (33043)
  • Summerland Key and Ramrod Key
  • Cudjoe Key and Sugarloaf Key (33042)
  • Saddlebunch Keys and Big Coppitt Key

What a mobile session looks like in the Lower Keys

Most Lower Keys families work with us at home. The therapist sets up wherever the hard moments happen, often the kitchen table or the yard, and works on the routines your child really has, not a staged version of them in an office.

Because Key West is our base, a Lower Keys visit is a short drive up the highway for us. We still keep visits on a steady weekly rhythm, since consistency matters more than any single long session.

School, community, and the long drive to everything

Many Lower Keys children ride a long way to school, so we coordinate with families on whether a school session, an after-school home visit, or a community outing makes the most sense that week. The goal is the same in every setting: skills that hold up wherever your child is.

Working around the deer, the dark roads, and quiet streets

Big Pine Key shares its roads with the Key deer, and locals already know to slow down at dusk near the refuge. Our therapists plan evening visits with that in mind, leaving extra time on Key Deer Boulevard and the side roads off it rather than treating every route like a straight shot.

Homes here tend to be more spread apart than in Key West, with longer driveways and fewer streetlights, so we confirm landmarks near your house, not just an address, before the first visit so the therapist finds you without delay.

From Cudjoe to Sugarloaf: a route, not isolated stops

We think of the Lower Keys as a single corridor rather than a scattering of separate towns. A visit to a family on Sugarloaf Key and one on Cudjoe Key can often sit back to back on the same afternoon, which means your scheduled time is less likely to shift because the therapist is already in the area, not driving in from Key West for a single stop.

For households on Ramrod Key or in the Saddlebunch Keys, we ask about any gate codes or private road rules up front, since a handful of these streets are managed by homeowner associations rather than the county.

School-based support through Monroe County School District

Big Pine Key children attend schools within Monroe County School District, often after a bus ride that starts earlier than it would in a denser town. When the school agrees to coordinate, we aim visits around that reality, sometimes meeting a child right as the bus drops them off so the transition from school to home is part of the session instead of a gap nobody addresses.

Because there are fewer schools serving this part of the Lower Keys, siblings often end up at the same campus even across different grade levels, so a therapist working with one child may also see a younger or older sibling in passing. We treat that overlap as a chance to keep goals consistent across the household, not as something to avoid.

Questions Lower Keys parents ask us

Do you serve Big Pine Key, or only Key West?

We serve Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys. Key West is where our office is, but most of our work happens in families' homes, schools, and communities throughout Monroe County.

Can we come to the Key West office instead?

Yes, if that works better for your family. Our office is at 524 Front Street, Office 1, Key West. Most Lower Keys families prefer home visits because the skills are practiced where they are needed.

Is ABA in the Lower Keys covered by Florida Medicaid?

Florida Medicaid covers ABA for children under 21 when it is medically necessary, after an evaluation and a prior authorization. For the details, read our Florida Medicaid and ABA guide.

Do you offer parent training in Spanish?

Yes. Every clinician on our team works in English and Spanish, so parent training can be fully in Spanish.

Do you cover No Name Key as well as Big Pine Key?

Yes, No Name Key is part of our Big Pine Key route. Call 786-238-5931 and we will confirm the best visit times for your street.

Our street is private with a gate code. Is that a problem?

No, we simply ask for the code or instructions ahead of the first visit so the therapist is not stuck waiting outside.

Can a session start right when the school bus drops off?

In many cases yes, especially for families where the after-school window is the most practical time. Tell us your bus schedule and we will build around it.
